KB, Deputy Head
Secondary, Northampton
When seeking consultancy support for our one-person music department we were recommended Laura. We first commissioned Laura to offer leadership support as well as the huge challenge of improving the quality of education in the department to safeguard our GCSE student outcomes. On first meeting Laura I was filled with confidence as she very quickly and accurately identified key priorities for improvement and mapped out a very clear action plan, coupled with a wealth of support materials. Laura’s leadership style is centred around high challenge and high support meaning that despite the very tight deadline for improvement all actions felt manageable.
Laura provided directional coaching and modelled effective leadership, and was clearly very committed to driving improvement. The best part for me was Laura’s willingness to roll up her sleeves and work directly with our students. Despite only having just met our students Laura was able to create a safe and purposeful learning environment for all, where high expectations underpinned every aspect of her teaching. Our students accepted these expectations readily and soon come to enjoy the security afforded by such boundaries.
Laura is undoubtedly a very gifted teacher whose passion for music is quite simply infectious. Laura’s diligent planning allowed for key learning objectives to be clearly illuminated to our students, enabling their learning journey to be readily accessible to them. Her resources are thoughtfully produced in order to engage students in exciting and meaningful learning experiences. As a result of Laura’s interventions our students made accelerated progress which was supported by detailed, informative and encouraging feedback.
RRW, Head of Performing Arts
Secondary, Birmingham
I was head of a vibrant performing arts faculty in a large city comprehensive school when Laura arrived on placement as part of her PGCSE. Immediately, I was struck by her love of her subject and her passion for music education. I remember the firs time I popped into one of her lessons: the atmosphere was electric. Every one of the 30 teenagers were engaged in making music and happy. Laura joined our team the following year and transformed our faculty into a place of intense musical activity where children loved to spend time singing and playing together. In turn, this transformed the lives of many youngsters as they discovered their love for creativity and music making.
