About Laura

Laura is an incredibly passionate Music Educator with 15 years experience; training at Leeds College of Music where she majored in performance. She acquired her BA (Hons) Jazz before going on to achieve her Masters in Arts qualification; her research focussed on the impact of music on cognitive development and academic achievement.

Her drive for improving quality of, and access to, Music Education for children was born whilst understanding the true impact that music has on the brain in this phase of life.

Laura has taught in both Primary and Secondary settings across England and in Vietnam. She has been a successful Head of Music, Head of Performing Arts and has worked closely with the Juilliard School in New York for numerous years. She has been working as an Education Consultant since 2021; she has worked with an international company on curriculum design throughout Early Years - KS3. The main body of work was designing and developing a curriculum that embedded metacognitive principles, as well as creating curriculum support materials that aimed to develop the whole child, more than just the academic side. She has also supported a Secondary Music Department in the local area to improve their GCSE results, KS3 offering and teacher development.

Laura has led many Professional Development training sessions, often focussed around the notion of 'Changing the way we think' and 'Creativity in the Classroom.' Sessions have been delivered to a variety of stake-holders from parents and teachers to Senior Leaders and Principals. Hugely inspired by the late Sir Ken Robinson, Laura is driven to increase creativity in schools throughout the curriculum.

Laura has recently published a book 'Primary Music for every teacher' which supports non-music-specialist teachers to effectively teach music in their classroom. The book is linked to 6 curriculum areas, allowing teachers the opportunity to seamlessly embed music into their pre-existing curriculum topics, enhancing deep learning throughout the year.
